Hey, how’s it going this is Claude Johnson with Guitar Control, I’m very excited to show you a little bit of “Me and Bobby Mcgee” by Janis Joplin. So grab your guitar and then grab yourself a G chord and grab yourself a D7 chord and try this rhythm.

First of all, if you don’t know the G chord, learn it. Check-out my other video on the seven essential guitar chords. D7 might be a little new, so put your middle finger on the 2nd fret of the G string, 1st fret on the 1st fret of the B string and then your ring finger on the 2nd fret of the high E-string and play the top four strings.

The strum rhythm is going to be like this. It’s like 1, 2, and, 4 and; 1, 2, and, 4 and. So you don’t hit on the 3rd beat; the two stretches out. Instead of 1, 2, 3, and, 4, and; 1, 2, 3; notice I’m saying the three while I’m not strumming. One, 2, and, 4 and; 1, 2, and, 4 and. You strum on G for like two bars, you go into the D7 at the end of that. The beginning of that it two bars. You’re going to go to the D7 early.

Now you stay on D7. A little bit of a C chord for one beat on the turnaround
there. Later in the song the whole thing is going to modulate up to the key of A, but we’re not going to worry about that just for this little lesson. I just want you to get that basic thing down.
